Skyscraper Local — About Hero

Our story

We may not live on your street.
But we know your neighborhood.

Skyscraper Local was built by small business people, for small business people. We want our neighborhood to thrive.

Skyscraper Local — Origin Story

How we got here

Small business owners are the ones being left behind.

They have the passion, the skill, the community. But the tools and support they need are priced out of their reach. A basic website can cost five thousand dollars. We know that pain because we lived it.

My name is Maureen Lauer-Gatta, and I owned a yoga studio from 2009 to March 2020. I loved it. The community, the teachers, the students. But I did everything myself. I cleaned the floors, handled the accounting, managed hiring, and tried to keep up with marketing all at once. I had the technical aptitude to figure things out. I am a civil engineer by degree. But no matter how much I wanted to solve the problem, I could not do it all alone. Things fell through the cracks because I didn't have the time, energy, or money to actually focus on them.

Eventually I found myself working for someone else and hit a wall. That was the moment I knew I had to build something of my own. I was done waiting.

That is where I met Edie Liu. We spent almost a year working through different ideas. And the more we talked, the clearer it became: small business owners are the ones being left behind. Everything else we built exists because of that belief.

Edie had worked with startups before. She is our CEO, and her strength is connecting and sharing. I am our CIO, and my strength is bridging technology to meet each business and each person exactly where they are.

Every skyscraper has empty floors waiting to be filled. That is what we do. We help small businesses build that foundation and grow into their full potential. We are even rebranding right now, because we believe you do not wait until everything is perfect. You start. That is what we tell our clients, and that is exactly how we run our own business.

Maureen Lauer-Gatta

Co-Founder, CIO

I know what it takes to market a small business because I did it myself. For over a decade I ran everything for my studio including marketing: Facebook, email campaigns, word of mouth, all of it. I figured out what worked, what didn't, and how much time it actually takes when you are also running everything else. Things did fall through the cracks because I didn't have the time, energy, or money to actually focus on this.

I spent years learning AI tools and building websites, connecting platforms so they could actually talk to each other. I was doing this before most people knew it was possible. That experience is the foundation of how I approach every client we work with at Skyscraper Local.

Since co-founding Skyscraper Local I have run cold email outreach campaigns for a printing company, a chiropractor, and a real estate agent, managed ongoing Facebook marketing for small business clients, and built a website for a janitorial business.

My background is in engineering, which means I think in systems. When a new client comes to us I start by understanding what they need and how comfortable they are with technology. Then I find the most accessible path forward. Whether that is getting them set up on one platform or running their full presence across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok. If all they need is a booking calendar, we do that. If they need everything, we do that too.

I am a civil engineer by degree, a former business owner by experience, and a marketer by necessity. That combination is exactly what Skyscraper Local was built on.

Co-Founder, CEO

I spent over two decades running operations for a growing company, taking it from a small startup to nearly 300 employees. I know what it takes to build something that works, keep customers happy, and scale without losing the human side of the business.

Before co-founding Skyscraper Local I worked at an AI startup where I led business development, built client onboarding systems, and used outreach tools to grow revenue. I was learning and applying AI before most people knew it was relevant to small businesses and organizations.

What I bring to every client conversation is simple. I listen. I put myself in your shoes and try to understand what is actually getting in the way. Then I help remove it. I believe in keeping things easy, simple, and clear because that is what people actually want. No one needs more complexity in their life.

Since co-founding Skyscraper Local I have brought in multiple clients through relationships, grown those accounts over time, and run outreach campaigns, newsletters, and sales planning to help the business grow alongside our clients.

Skyscraper Local — Values

What we believe

The values behind every decision we make.

Relationships first

We are not in the business of blasting emails and hoping something sticks. Every campaign we run, every profile we manage, every email we write is designed to start a real conversation and build a real relationship.

Community over competition

Local businesses make neighborhoods worth living in. We root for every single one of our clients. Their growth is our growth and their community is ours too.

Honest and sustainable

We do not oversell. We do not lock you in. We tell you exactly what we do, what it costs, and what you can expect. Because the best client relationships are built on trust, not contracts.

Skyscraper Local — Community Commitment

Our commitment

Building this alongside our clients.

We believe the businesses that show up for their communities deserve to be known. That belief shapes everything about how we work, how we price, and how we treat the people we work with.

See what we offer

Honest pricing

Small businesses shouldn't have to choose between growing and staying afloat. We built our pricing around what's actually affordable, not what the market will bear.

No lock-ins

We don't believe in trapping clients. Small businesses have enough pressure without being locked into something that isn't working. You stay because the work is making a difference.

Human first

Behind every business is a person trying to build something. We never forget that. You will always work with someone who knows your name, your business, and your goals.

We are not ahead of our clients. We are building this with them.
